Our verdict
One of the best short climbs in Wiltshire for the ratio of effort to view — the whole vale opens up within twenty minutes of the car park. Grass gets slippery after rain, and sheep graze the reserve, so dogs on a lead.
Chalk downland National Nature Reserve on the northern rim of the Vale of Pewsey, taking in Milk Hill and Walkers Hill. The Alton Barnes White Horse was cut into the scarp in 1812, and Knap Hill above it holds a Neolithic causewayed enclosure some 600 feet across.
