Our verdict
A proper climb with a real sense of scale once you're up — the Wansdyke running along the hilltop is worth a closer look, having marked a boundary across southern England for over a thousand years. Best combined with a longer circular route rather than visited alone.
The second-highest point in Wiltshire at 294 metres, just a metre short of neighbouring Milk Hill, with a stretch of the ancient Wansdyke earthwork running along its northern side. Reached from All Cannings via field paths and tracks along the Kennet and Avon Canal before a steady climb to the ridge, often combined with nearby Rybury Camp hillfort.
