Our verdict
A proper facilities-and-all country park — large car park, toilet block on site, and enough varied ground between wood, grassland and lake to make a decent half-day out. The 900 recorded fungi species make an autumn visit worth timing deliberately.
A 74-hectare estate combining Stanton Great Wood's remnants of ancient broadleaved woodland with open grassland and a fishing lake, all managed as a Local Nature Reserve. Over 900 species of fungi have been recorded here, and there's a Roman villa site nearby, though nothing survives above ground to see.
