Our verdict
One of the better-equipped woods in this batch — proper tarmac car park for 20-odd cars, a genuinely accessible surfaced loop, and enough space to wander further if you want more than the easy circuit. Listen for skylarks over the meadows in summer.
At nearly 54 hectares, this is the largest of the twelve Great Western Community Forest sites — a young County Wildlife Site of wildflower meadows, seasonal ponds and maturing broadleaf woodland on former arable land. A 0.9km surfaced circular path from the car park is suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs, with rougher, muddier routes threading further out.
