Horse Wood

Our verdict

One of the quieter threads in the Ham Hill weave — use it to turn the hilltop honeypot into a proper circular walk and you'll have the trees largely to yourself while the kite-flyers hold the summit.

Broadleaf woodland on the slopes below Ham Hill's ramparts, part of the mosaic of woods, quarries and Iron Age earthworks that ring the famous hamstone hilltop.

A wooded flank of the Ham Hill country park, open at all times.
