Our verdict
A proper climb rather than a stroll, and the path can be narrow with a real drop — not one for a dog that pulls. The views earn it, though.
A slumped, scrubby section of cliff at the eastern end of Ringstead Bay, named for a fire that smouldered in its bituminous shale for several years after 1826. The South West Coast Path climbs steeply through gorse and scrub here on the way towards White Nothe, with views back over the bay to Weymouth and Portland.
