Our verdict
Good, easy heath walking right in the middle of the forest network — easy to link into a longer route from any of the Forestry England car parks. Ground-nesting Dartford warblers and nightjars mean dogs need to stay on the main tracks (or on a lead) through the spring and summer nesting season.
Open heathland at the centre of Wareham Forest, tracks running between Lower Hyde Heath to the west and Bere Heath to the east, all part of the internationally important Dorset Heaths.
