Our verdict
Good open heath walking linked into the wider Wareham Forest track network, though it shares the whole forest's summer caveats around ground-nesting birds and reptiles. Ground-nesting Dartford warblers and nightjars mean dogs need to stay on the main tracks (or on a lead) through the spring and summer nesting season.
Open CRoW heathland immediately north of Philliols Heath in the heart of Wareham Forest, tracks running north-west along the heath boundary between the forest plantations and open ground — all part of the same internationally important Dorset Heaths mosaic as neighbouring Higher Hyde Heath.
