Wareham Forest - Bere Heath

Our verdict

Good open heath walking as part of the wider forest network; nothing to distinguish it from its neighbouring heaths beyond the name on the map, so treat it as one stretch of a longer route. Ground-nesting Dartford warblers and nightjars mean dogs need to stay on the main tracks (or on a lead) through the spring and summer nesting season.

One of the named heath compartments within Wareham Forest, lying between Philliols Heath and Bloxworth Heath towards the eastern side of the forest, managed by Forestry England as part of the wider Dorset Heaths SSSI mosaic.
