Our verdict
Quiet, open heath with no facilities or waymarking; a good spot for solitude if you already know your way around this stretch of Purbeck. Ground-nesting Dartford warblers and nightjars mean dogs need to stay on the main tracks (or on a lead) through the spring and summer nesting season. Parking and dog rules are TBC.
Open CRoW heathland between Burton Heath and Drove Hill, part of the wider Winfrith heaths within the Dorset Heaths SSSI — not to be confused with the better-known Knighton Heath near Bournemouth.
