A short, easy climb for a genuinely good view over this whole heathland block — worth combining with Winfrith Heath or Whitcombe Vale next door rather than visiting alone. Like much of the Purbeck heaths, tracks can close in dry spells if wildfire risk spikes — Wareham Forest itself lost over 220 hectares to fire in 2020, so it pays to check before a summer visit.
A low heathland rise south of Winfrith Newburgh with a trig point on top and views back over the Winfrith and Tadnoll heaths towards the former Winfrith nuclear research site. It sits on open CRoW access land within the Dorset Heaths and links informally to trails through neighbouring Winfrith Heath. Ground-nesting Dartford warblers and nightjars mean dogs need to stay on the main tracks (or on a lead) through the spring and summer nesting season.
