Whitcombe Vale

Our verdict

A peaceful, sheltered contrast to the exposed hills either side of it — good combined with Blacknoll Hill or Winfrith Heath for a longer circuit. Ground-nesting Dartford warblers and nightjars mean dogs need to stay on the main tracks (or on a lead) through the spring and summer nesting season.

A shallow heathland valley below Whitcombe Hill and Blacknoll Hill, part of the Winfrith Heath and Tadnoll landscape south of Winfrith Newburgh, with trails leading south from the Winfrith Heath track network.
