Drove Hill

Our verdict

No paths of its own — you're crossing open heather and gorse rather than following a route — so it rewards a map and a sense of direction more than a casual visit. Ground-nesting Dartford warblers and nightjars mean dogs need to stay on the main tracks (or on a lead) through the spring and summer nesting season. Parking and dog rules are TBC.

Open heathland CRoW land close to Knighton Heath and Galton Heath, part of the wide, largely trackless heath south of Winfrith Newburgh between the Wareham Forest heaths and the Ridgeway.
