Remote and little-signposted, but a genuine escape if you want woodland without the Golden Cap crowds. Worth checking current Forestry England access before a special trip.
A block of Forestry England woodland and open common on the high ground near Birdsmoorgate, close to Racedown Lodge (once home to William and Dorothy Wordsworth) on the Devon border. Mixed conifer and broadleaf plantation with bridleways and forest tracks.
