A lovely short walk with real views over the vale — easy underfoot and genuinely popular with dog walkers. Livestock may be grazing the ramparts, so keep a short lead handy.
An Iron Age hillfort on a wooded ridge above the Marshwood Vale, less than a mile from its twin at Lambert's Castle and linked to it by a stretch of the Wessex Ridgeway. Bluebells and wild garlic fill the beech and oak woodland in spring, and buzzards, ravens and woodpeckers are regular overhead.
