Our verdict
A proper, quiet stretch of unimproved downland — good for a longer walk if you're exploring the Wylye Valley, without the crowds of some of the more famous NNRs.
Chalk downland above the village of Wylye, protected as a National Nature Reserve for its species-rich grassland, with the adjoining Wylye Cow Down Bottom forming part of the same open-access hillside.
National Nature Reserve — one of the country's finest wildlife sites. Open, but stick to marked trails.
