Our verdict
Flat and well-connected to the village, but there's no surfaced path network and the ground floods seasonally, so it's a proper boots job in winter. The Woodland Trust's own tiny car park holds just three cars — arrive early or walk in from Wanborough.
A patchwork of woodland, grassland and ponds on former grazing meadows at Wanborough, planted in the mid-1990s and now designated a Site of Special Wildlife Interest for its butterflies, dragonflies and birds of prey. Thirteen stile-and-kissing-gate entrances link the wood into the village's footpath network, and there's a community orchard of traditional Wiltshire apple varieties planted in 2014.
