Monks Rest Wood

Our verdict

A straightforward, unpolished young wood with no facilities and nowhere obvious to park — best treated as a stop on a longer walk from Wootton Bassett rather than a drive-to destination. We couldn't find a usable photo online.

A young Woodland Trust wood on the edge of Royal Wootton Bassett, planted with native broadleaves — oak, ash, field maple, birch and lime — under a mixed shrub layer of hazel and guelder rose. The Trust's own notes are blunt about it: car parking is difficult, so this is one for walking in from the village rather than driving to.

Woodland Trust wood — free to visit on foot, open every day.
