Wavering Down

Our verdict

The best ridge mile in the Mendips. Walk it to Crook Peak and back and try to be in a bad mood afterwards.

The springy turf ridge running between Shute Shelve and Crook Peak, with a trig point summit and views from the Quantocks to Wales.

Open access land under the Countryside & Rights of Way Act. You're free to roam on foot beyond the paths. Dogs on a short lead 1 March to 31 July and around livestock.
