Our verdict
Not a walk so much as a very good place to stand still. Blossom time and apple time are the two occasions to make the detour; the rest of the year it's a peaceful shortcut with a picnic bench. Every village should have one.
South Petherton's own traditional orchard, kept by the community as old Somerset villages once kept them all — gnarled apple varieties, rough grass, blossom in April and scrumping weather in October.
A community orchard on the edge of the village, open at all times. Windfalls are for everyone — take a few, leave plenty.
