Our verdict

Dunkery's wild back garden. No paths to speak of, bog that eats trainers, and a very good chance of seeing nobody at all. Proper moor for proper boots.

Wet heather moorland spilling off the south-east shoulder of Dunkery — rough, boggy and full of snipe, with the beacon looming above.

Open access land under the Countryside & Rights of Way Act. You're free to roam on foot beyond the paths. Dogs on a short lead 1 March to 31 July and around livestock.
