Our verdict
A quieter way into the Stourhead estate than the main garden entrance — good for a proper walk through the wider parkland without the entry fee, though the garden itself (see the Warminster and the Vale of Wardour listing) is the main event if that's what you're after.
A separate corner of the wider Stourhead estate near Kilmington, part of the 2,650 acres of chalk downland and ancient woodland that surround the famous landscape garden a few miles away.
National Trust land — usually free to walk; some sites charge for parking.
