A genuinely striking combination of deep history and modern flying activity — good odds of watching gliders ride the thermals while you take in the hillfort earthworks and the view.
A large multivallate Iron Age hillfort, White Sheet Camp, on a prominent chalk spur near Mere, with around a dozen Bronze Age burial mounds and extensive views over Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire. It's also a well-known slope-soaring site for hang gliders and radio-controlled model flying, taking advantage of the updrafts off the steep scarp — not to be confused with the smaller, unrelated White Sheet Hill near Berwick St John, several miles east in the Cranborne Chase area.
