Our verdict
A gentle, well-equipped riverside walk right by an attractive village — keep to the path since the ground is genuinely wet and poisonous hemlock water dropwort grows in places. Good for families given the boardwalks and dipping platform.
A flood-plain meadow on the River Kennet at Ramsbury, managed by the parish council and volunteers, with boardwalks, a dipping platform and bridges forming a circular path. Marsh marigold and yellow flag iris flower through spring and summer, emperor dragonflies and blue-tailed damselflies breed in the pond, and mute swans, mallards, coots and moorhens work the river.
Local Nature Reserve — a council-protected green space, usually free to wander.
