Bedwyn Common

Our verdict

A reliable stretch of common woven into some of the better-known walks in this corner of Wiltshire — good for combining with the canal and windmill rather than visiting in isolation.

Open common land east of Great Bedwyn, crossed by several well-used walking routes that link the Kennet and Avon Canal, Crofton Pumping Station and Wilton Windmill — the only working windmill left in Wessex. Faggotty Copse, a small adjoining CRoW woodland parcel, sits just a few hundred metres to the north.

Open access land — you can roam freely on foot.
