Plain Copse

Our verdict

Ten minutes, not an hour — this is a pocket wood, not a destination. Good for spring flowers and woodland birds if you're passing, but there's no parking of its own, so you're walking in from the lane.

A tiny 1.36-hectare fragment of the old Braydon Forest at Lydiard Millicent, oak and birch with coppiced understorey, surrounded on all sides by farmland.

Woodland Trust wood — free to visit on foot, open every day.
