Our verdict
A folly hunt disguised as a forestry walk. The tower on the summit is the reward — eccentric, unexpected and with the Quantocks arrayed beyond — and you'll almost certainly have the whole hill to yourself. Finish at the Notley Arms, one of the area's best pubs.
A conifer-cloaked hill between the Brendons and the Quantocks, crowned by the folly tower of Willett — a ruined 'church' built as an eyecatcher in the 1770s. Forest tracks corkscrew up through larch and spruce to the top.
