Haddon Wood

Our verdict

The newest wood on this list, so manage expectations — it's saplings and skylarks, not cathedral oaks. Come for an easy, open amble and the quiet satisfaction of watching a wood grow up.

A brand-new native wood at Alhampton, donated to the Trust and planted in 2013, with open glades, wide sweeping rides and space earmarked for a future pond and community orchard.

Young Woodland Trust planting, free to roam. It's growing up in the open — expect saplings, glades and sky rather than shade.
