Our verdict
A community wood still growing into itself. The trees are adolescents, but the rides are wide, the circular walks are easy and the views are better than a 25-year-old wood has any right to.
A young broadleaf wood on a hillside five miles from Wellington, planted by the local community in 1998 — oak, cherry, hazel and birch with remnant beech boundaries, and views to the Blackdowns and the Wellington Monument.
Community-planted Woodland Trust site, open at all times. Wide rides and glades link straight into the public footpath network.
