Our verdict
Worth the detour for the archaeology as much as the walk: the building platforms and trackways are clear once your eye adjusts. Steep and bracken-choked in late summer, and best taken as part of a longer Dunkery circuit.
A combe on the north-facing slope of Dunkery Hill above Luccombe, holding two Iron Age enclosures and the earthworks of a deserted medieval settlement — some eleven buildings, of which three or four were houses. A scheduled monument on the National Trust's Holnicote Estate.
