Our verdict
The wooded half of a Haddon Hill day. On its own it's plantation walking; climb out of the trees onto the open hill and the Wimbleball views repay the whole trip. Free parking at the top makes this one of Exmoor's laziest big-view walks.
The plantation on the shoulder of Haddon Hill above Wimbleball Lake — dark rows of conifer opening suddenly onto the heathery hilltop, with the lake below and Dartmoor on the southern horizon on a clear day.
