As good as town-door walking gets on Exmoor. Park once in Dulverton and you've riverbank, ancient oaks and a hilltop panorama within the hour — and tea shops waiting at the bottom. The Barle circuit upstream is the one to do.
Oak and beech woods rising straight from Dulverton's rooftops on both banks of the Barle, with the classic circuit running out through Burridge Wood to the medieval clapper spans of Tarr Steps country and back down the river.
The town woods around Dulverton — Burridge and Looseall — open at all times on a network of waymarked paths.
