Our verdict
Beautiful and properly hidden, but steep with no surfaced paths — sturdy footwear needed. Parking is for one car only, so this rewards an early start or a walk in from West Milton.
A steeply cut Dorset Wildlife Trust river valley with far-reaching views, where strip lynchets from historic farming cross the upper fields and a stream lined with alder woodland runs through the bottom, home to otters and song thrush. Bird's-foot-trefoil, field scabious and cowslip cling to the drier slopes.
