Our verdict
One of the best ridge walks in Dorset — open, breezy, and rarely crowded even though the views rival anywhere on the coast path. It's fully exposed with no shelter, and livestock graze the down and surrounding fields, so keep dogs close and expect summer weekend traffic at the Corfe Castle end.
An ancient chalk ridge running across the Isle of Purbeck, crowned with a line of Bronze Age burial mounds that give it its name. At around 200 metres it forms part of the Purbeck Ridgeway between Corfe Castle and Swanage, with uninterrupted views south to the Jurassic Coast and north across Poole Harbour and the heathland below.
