Our verdict
A genuinely brilliant short walk for the effort involved — fifteen minutes up a steep path for a 360-degree view most hills in Dorset can't match. It's exposed and can be slippery underfoot when wet, and there's no shade or shelter at the top.
A distinctive conical hill rising to 193 metres above the Purbeck heaths, topped by a Bronze Age barrow and the site of a medieval hunting lodge of King John. The short, steep climb is rewarded with one of the widest views in Dorset — the chalk ridge running away to the coast, Poole Harbour to the north, and on a clear day the Isle of Wight.
