Our verdict
A lovely little ridge-top reserve with views that punch well above its size, though the ground is steep in places away from the level ridge path itself. Cattle graze here through summer, so keep dogs under close control.
A 28-hectare Dorset Wildlife Trust reserve high on the chalk ridge near Church Knowle, combining broadleaf woodland with open chalk downland and far-reaching views across to Poole Harbour. The grassland is grazed by cattle in summer and is rich in wildflowers, butterflies and other insects on its close-cropped turf.
