Broad Oak Orchard

Our verdict

A lovely quiet pocket for five minutes rather than a proper walk — but dogs aren't allowed here, so it's really one for people, not pets. Worth knowing before you detour.

A small community orchard on the edge of the Broad Oak hamlet, donated to Dorset Wildlife Trust in 1999. Old varieties of English apple and plum grow among long grass left for insects and birds, with mown paths looped through it and an annual Apple Day each October.

Dorset Wildlife Trust reserve — free to explore on foot; some are dog-free or on-lead to protect wildlife.
