Our verdict
Rough, unpolished and better than it sounds — quarries make natural amphitheatres and the Levels views from the top of the Poldens here are enormous. Fifteen minutes from the M5 and nobody stops. Their loss.
The old lias quarry on Puriton's hill, slowly being reclaimed by scrub and ash woodland, with sudden wide views across the Levels to the Quantocks and Brent Knoll from the rim of the ridge.
A regenerating quarry site on the Polden ridge. Old quarry faces — keep children and dogs away from the edges.
