A view with a lay-by rather than a walk — you're here for ten minutes of Alfred, marsh and sky, not an afternoon. Pair it with Burrow Mump up the road and you've got the Levels' whole origin story in one outing.
A pull-in and pocket of trees on the edge of the Levels looking across to Athelney Hill, where King Alfred hid from the Danes and famously burnt the cakes. The monument on the hill is on private farmland, so this is the official place to stop and take it in.
