Dulcote to Wells Cycleway

Our verdict

The gentlest walk out of Wells and the pushchair-friendly option when Mendip proper feels like too much. It's a path, not a wood — but a leafy one with a cathedral at one end, and that's a fair trade.

The green mile between Wells and Dulcote along the old East Somerset line — flat, hedged and wooded, with Dulcote Hill on one side and glimpses of the cathedral towers on the other.

A tree-lined foot and cycle path on the old Shepton railway line, open at all times and shared with bikes.
