Glastonbury Tor

Our verdict

A short, sharp pull up the most famous hill in Somerset and a full 360 over the Levels. Touristy at the top, transcendent at sunrise.

A conical tor topped by the roofless tower of St Michael's church, rising abruptly from the flat Levels. Steeped in Avalon legend, with a 360 over the moors to the sea.

National Trust hill with a medieval tower. Free to climb on foot; livestock graze the slopes.
