Parson's Close

Our verdict

Micro-Exmoor: one small close of trees in a landscape that rewards aimlessness. Nobody will ever drive here specially, but on a Luxborough round with the Royal Oak at the end, it's a green pause worth knowing.

A pocket of old pasture-woodland near Luxborough in the folded, forgotten country of the Brendons — hedgebank oaks, steep little fields and deep lanes that see more deer than cars.

A small woodland enclosure in the Brendon Hills, reached on foot. Stock graze nearby — leads on.
