Our verdict
The wooded interlude on Bath's best flat walk. Nobody visits the Slopes for their own sake, but as the leafy stretch between the Boathouse and the city centre towpath they make the riverside mile feel briefly rural.
A green bank of trees dropping to the Avon at Newbridge on Bath's western edge, beside the river path and the Bristol–Bath railway path — herons on the water, narrowboats below, and the Boathouse pub a towpath stroll away.
