Our verdict
A reliable, well-used forest walk with a proper village pub at the end of it — easily combined with a visit to Moreton's famous engraved-glass church windows. Ground-nesting Dartford warblers and nightjars mean dogs need to stay on the main tracks (or on a lead) through the spring and summer nesting season.
Moreton Forest, a Forestry England plantation on the western edge of Wareham Forest next to Moreton village, with waymarked trails through mixed conifer and broadleaf woodland linking to the Lawrence of Arabia Trail towards Clouds Hill and Bovington.
