Our verdict
Lovely walking if you're visiting without a dog — Brownsea Island doesn't allow dogs anywhere on the island (assistance dogs excepted), so this one's for solo trips or family days out rather than a dog walk.
Woodland at the centre of Brownsea Island, between the National Trust's open parkland and the Dorset Wildlife Trust's lagoon reserve, criss-crossed by paths used by the island's famously tame red squirrels.
