Allington Hill

Our verdict

A proper town-edge dog walk with real choice of routes and views back over Bridport — genuinely popular with locals rather than a hidden find. Steep in places, but easy to shorten or extend.

A community-owned Woodland Trust hill on the edge of Bridport, bought by public subscription and still run by local volunteers (the "Allington Hillbillies"). Mixed woodland, grassland and open access land climb steeply above North Allington, with Cooper's Wood — planted with a thousand saplings in 2004 — forming the newer, northern half.
