A good bit of history to know if you're walking this stretch of the Fontmell Down escarpment, even if there's nothing on the ground to mark it. Livestock graze nearby, so dogs on a lead; steep in places.
CRoW downland near Fontmell Magna named for the Dorset Clubmen, the armed bands of countryfolk who gathered here in their thousands in May 1645 to resist the plundering of both Royalist and Parliamentarian armies during the Civil War, before being crushed at nearby Hambledon Hill that August.
