Our verdict
A genuinely special combination of archaeology and wildlife-rich grassland — pair it with Hambledon Hill itself next door for one of the best walks in this whole area, though there's no dedicated car park so you'll want to start from Turnworth village or Child Okeford.
A 130-acre National Trust nature reserve on the down below Hambledon Hill, with wood pasture, chalk and neutral grassland, and extensive Iron Age field systems around a scheduled ring enclosure. Old pollarded ash and holly and a striking ancient ash coppice stool survive among the grazed pasture.
